HIPS: Host-Based Intrusion Prevention Systems
Why do I need HIPS if I already have an antivirus, antispyware, and firewall?
Firewalls control your network activity, while antivirus and antispyware protect you only from known viruses and malware modules. But malware writers modify those modules so quickly, that antiviruses and antispyware are unable to detect those zero-day attacks. That is why you need a HIPS solution - it protects your host from both known and unknown malware with no signatures need.
